World number 22 Francisco Cerundolo received a bye to the round of 16 here in Buenos Aires as the fourth seed this week but he could have done with the practice of a first round fixture after a poor start to 2024. That seems particularly likely as he faces in-form Facundo Diaz Acosta for the first time, with the younger Argentine coming off an excellent first round win over Daniel Altmaier on Monday. Diaz Acosta will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 84th after a strong run to the quarter-finals in Cordoba last week and his five-set exit to Taylor Fritz on his Australian Open debut last month was promising indeed.
