THE PREDICTION

This should rightfully be the opposite way around in terms of seeding as Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was cruelly denied ranking points last month but the world number 25 has got on with the job admirably. The 23-year-old beat Mayar Sherif in comfortable straight sets on Monday to continue her excellent form, with a three-set defeat to Coco Gauff last week in Toronto no great embarrassment from one of the best matches this season. World number nine Garbine Muguruza may well have preferred to play the first round here as she desperately seeks a run of wins. The 28-year-old has failed to win back-to-back matches in each of her last nine tournaments on tour despite needing last season the WTA Finals champion and it is difficult to see where or when her tennis will return to her. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head but at this moment in time, and in these conditions, Rybakina can be backed to win outright.
