World number 23 Elena Rybakina should be a top 10 player by rights after an incredible run under the radar at Wimbledon last season saw her snatch the title from a set down against Ons Jabeur. A lack of ranking points at SW19 left the 23-year-old quite rightfully feeling hard done-by as perhaps the least celebrated Grand Slam champion in recent history but she reacted well towards the end of the season after an understandable blip. An opening win over Danielle Collins in 2023 followed by defeats to Marta Kostyuk and Petra Kvitova is a reasonable record coming into the Australian Open, where conditions could be prime for her big-serving and deceptively tricky game but this is no gimme against in-form Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The 21-year-old will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 48th on Monday after finishing runner-up to Lauren Davis at the Hobart International this weekend but it remains to be seen how the youngster will cope with losing her first tour final. Whilst Rybakina could be in better shape for this first meeting with the Italian the Wimbledon champion should be able to edge this in straight sets. Back the Kazakh to win outright, though, inside an accumulator.
