THE PREDICTION
World number 66 Dusan Lajovic can be a highly frustrating player to predict on tour with more troughs than peaks but the Serb has found some serious form in parts of this season, with April’s Banja Luka title won at Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev’s expense. The 33-year-old produced another stunning top 10 upset on Wednesday with victory over Canada Masters champion Jannik Sinner and he is yet to drop a set from a strong qualifying campaign through to the round of 16. World umber nine Taylor Fritz remains the favourite as the US number one on a home court, particularly away from Lajovic’s favoured clay, but he has been caught cold on a number of occasions this season in matches he should be winning comfortably. Back-to-back straight set wins over top 40 players in Jiri Lehecka and Lorenzo Sonego suggest he has enough here but a straight-sets result would certainly be a risk. Lajovic beat a fresh-faced Fritz on clay back in 2018 but the American should be able to level their head-to-head backed by a partisan atmosphere in Cincinnati.
