Two of the more unpredictable players on the ATP tour meet here for what could be one of the ,ore entertaining first round matches on Monday. World number 22 Denis Shapovalov should be a top 10 player if raw talent was the only attribute taken into account but the 23-year-old Canadian still has some growing up to do on court. Shapovalov made the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2021 when his highlights-heavy game found some proper rhythm and he came as close as anyone to ousting eventual champion Rafael Nadal here last season in a quarter-final five-set epic after stunning Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. World number 82 Dusan Lajovic is also better than his current ranking suggests, or at least can be, but the Serb has endured two fairly ropey seasons on tour and his last win at this level came in late July on his favoured clay at Kitzbuhel. Shapovalov is the overwhelming favourite to win here but straight sets is too much of a risk at this stage of the tournament. Back the Canadian to win outright in a match that could well see five sets.
