Former world number eight Diego Schwartzman endured a fairly drab 2022 season after ending 2021 so positively and he takes an eight-match losing streak into this potential upset after a retiring after the first-set of his Auckland clash with Jenson Brooksby on Tuesday. The 30-year-old reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros in 2018 before defeat to eventual champion Rafael Nadal and he has twice made the quarter-finals at the US Open in 2019 and 2021. Runs to the round of 16 here in Melbourne in 2018 and 2020 look almost impossible to emulate in his current form, particularly as his fitness is hugely in question after he dropped out of the United Cup at the last minute and barely completed a set against Brooksby. The Argentine is no quitter but five sets may be beyond him, so 22-year-old debutante Oleksii Krutykh could enjoy the biggest day of his career here in what looks a fair chance at being one of the first round upsets.
