Former world number 10 Denis Shapovalov received a bye to the round of 16 here in Dallas as the third seed but he could well have done with the extra round’s practice. The 23-year-old is currently ranked at world number 27th after enduring a mixed bag of form for much of the last 12 months on tour, although a five-set defeat to Hubert Hurkacz last time out at the Australian Open is no great embarrassment. World number 97 Yibing Wu is setting Chinese records with every rank he reaches now after becoming the first male player to break the top 100 on tour and he looks set to break it again after beating Michael Mmoh in three sets on Tuesday. Wu, also 23, finished runner-up at the Cleveland Challenger last week to suggest he comes into this first meeting with Shapovalov hot and the Canadian can often start tournaments poorly. Leave this match out of an accumulator but otherwise consider backing Yibing Wu to earn at least a set or perhaps even cause the whole upset here.
