THE PREDICTION
World number 77 Emma Raducanu went down with tonsillitis on the eve of the Austin Open last week to see her enter Indian Wells with less-than-ideal match practice in her legs. The 20-year-old takes a 2-2 record into the main draw after most recently losing in the second round of the Australian Open to Coco Gauff in a well-contested battle. World number 62 Danka Kovinic overcame Raducanu in three sets at the Australian Open the year before but the Brit’s excessive blisters essentially saw her finish the match with no serve and an underpowered forehand. 28-year-old Kovinic should not be underestimated here but, as fleeting as it might be, a fit and firing Emma Raducanu should be coming through this match-up in straight sets. The Brit should take well to the conditions in California and so far her defeats have rarely come due to lack of practice. If her body holds up Raducanu should win in two.
