This could be a proper thriller on Friday as world number eight Daniil Medvedev take son number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime for the second week running. 22-year-old Auger-Aliassime will be eager to avenge his defeat in the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open last week, which ended his the defence of his maiden ATP title, and he looked a lot more solid in a straight-sets victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina than his three-set comeback against Jason Kubler in the round of 16. Both players have wobbled against Australian opposition this week as Medvedev conceded a set to Christopher O’Connell on Thursday but the Russian takes a seven-match winning streak into this semi-final and he will be confident of eventually overcoming the Canadian. Two of their five matches have seen sets go both ways but three sets seem about as likely as two at this precise moment so backing Medvedev to win outright looks the sensible call.
