THE PREDICTION

World number seven Daniil Medvedev is riding an imperious 10-match winning streak into the round of 16 in Dubai after claiming the Rotterdam Open and Qatar Open last month. A straight-sets victory over Matteo Arnaldi on Tuesday was a suitably kind opener for the former world number one and he should be feeling confident of making the quarter-finals here as he leads world number 46 Alexander Bublik 4-0 in their head-to-head record. 25-year-old Bublik has a relatively similar game to Medvedev’s but the Kazakh lacks the mentality to commit to any sort of game plan to truly capitalise on his raw talent, at least at this stage of his career. Bublik snapped a 10-match losing streak in Marseille last week before losing in the semi-finals to eventual champion Hubert Hurkacz and it is a shame to have drawn a top player so early after a comfortable opener in Dubai over Alexandar Lazarov. Back Medvedev to win in straight sets, as he has done so in three of their four previous encounters.
