World number three Daniil Medvedev received a bye to the second round of the Paris Masters as the fourth seed here and the 2020 champion looks one of the favourites to lift the title on Sunday. 26-year-old Medvedev beat Denis Shapovalov to the Vienna Open title last weekend to take a five-match winning streak into Paris and the Russian’s game looked in better shape than we have seen for some time on tour. World number 25 Alex de Minaur enjoys the conditions here in Paris and he claimed a great victory over in-for Sebastian Korda on Monday, taking out the American in three sets. However, the Aussie has not been rewarded here. 23-year-old De Minaur has lost each of his four matches with Medvedev, including here back in 2020 as the Russian set a trajectory for the title. De Minaur has taken sets in two of their four meetings, including here in Paris, but Medvedev should be able to take this in two as he did most recently at the ATP Cup this January.
