THE PREDICTION

World number six Daniil Medvedev came back from a set down to beat Alexander Zverev on Tuesday but there is concern ahead of this match after the Russian turned his ankle during the match. After some treatment he was able to produce some of his best tennis this fortnight to win through but it is best to hold off on this match until he takes to court against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and even then it is wise to leave this out of an accumulator. 23-year-old Davidovich Fokina has quietly gathered some strong form together over the last month or so and he will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 25th after beating Cristian Garin in straight sets on Tuesday. The Spaniard has enjoyed a reasonably kind draw so far at Indian Wells but he has taken Medvedev to three sets before defeats in each of their two previous matches, including last month at the Rotterdam Open, and he this is probably his best opportunity for a first win. A lot of this match relies on Medvedev’s ankle recovering and considering how much he dislikes the conditions in the desert perhaps backing ADF to earn at least a set is the shrewd move.
