THE LOWDOWN

CRISTIAN GARIN

A rousing comeback from two sets down against the fancied Alex de Minaur in the fourth round has handed Cristian Garin his first Grand Slam quarter-final and it comes on a surface he is not traditionally known to excel on.

NICK KYRGIOS

After the tension-fuelled win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round, Nick Kyrgios was on much better behaviour against Brandon Nakashima last time out but the contest had plenty of drama of its own as it required five sets before the Aussie progressed.

THE PREDICTION

Nick Kyrgios is making headlines both on and off the court at the moment but one thing he is doing right is closing out matches and he stands an excellent chance here of making his first Grand Slam semi-final – a feat that he should probably have achieved some time ago given his undeniable talent. Standing in his way is a tenacious opponent who will fight for every ball here, but if Kyrgios maintains the exceptional serving that has taken him this far, then he has to be considered the favourite. Provided he isn’t distracted by the media circus surrounding him at the moment – much of it his own doing – then he is expected to continue his Wimbledon journey until Friday at the very least.
