28-year-old Mackenzie McDonald comes into the Shanghai Masters at a career-high ATP world ranking of 39th after enjoying his best season yet on tour. The American has beaten the likes of top 10ers Rafael Nadal, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz this year to prove himself a very capable match player but he has suffered plenty of avoidable exits. World number 119 Corentin Moutet will be pleased to see this season come and go after struggling with injuries for most of it. The 24-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open last summer to prove his tricky lefty game a real handful when on song but one win since the start of the hardcourt swing does not bode well for his chances here. Take McDonald to win outright, although two should do it.
