THE PREDICTION
World number five Caroline Garcia is the top seed in Monterrey and she played like it on Wednesday, ousting Kaja Juvan in straight sets. The 29-year-old has been a lot more fallible in 2023 than her outstanding end to last year, where she won the Cincinnati Masters, reached the semi-finals of the US Open and then claimed a first WTA Finals title at Fort Worth. This should be a relatively comfortable first meeting with Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, though, despite the Spaniard’s excellent three-set victory over Xiyu Wang on Tuesday. The world number 78 upset Beatrix Haddad-Maia in the first round of the Australian Open back in January but she has struggled to push on from there since and it would be a huge surprise to see Garcia upset here. Back the Frenchwoman to win in straight sets.
