THE PREDICTION

This could be one of the most entertaining matches of the season if world number two Carlos Alcaraz and former number six Gael Monfils decide to put on a show together. 20-year-old Alcaraz is the overwhelming favourite to come though, and likely in three sets, as he did in their first encounter at Indian Wells two years ago but Monfils has been enjoying his tennis in recent months to stun the likes of Hubert Hurkacz, Cam Norrie and Ugo Humbert as he continues to rise back up the rankings. The problem with this match-up is that Alcaraz has made functional what Monfils has typically made fun over the past decade, with the Frenchman thrilling crowds all over the world with his short but incredibly sweet points. Alcaraz’s game is essentially a more explosive, more expansive, and typically ruthless brand of Monfils’ highlight reel-making antics and that should become apparent in another straight sets win for the Spaniard, who is riding a seven-match streak from Indian Wells success.

TIP: CARLOS ALCARAZ TO WIN 2-0
