THE PREDICTION

This will be a fascinating fourth meeting between world number two Carlos Alcaraz and number 10 Felix Auger-Aliassime as the Canadian has won all three of their previous encounters. 22-year-old Auger-Aliassime has so far proven to be something of an indoors specialist after winning his first four ATP titles in those conditions last season and he beat Alcaraz indoors twice in 2022, first at the Davis Cup Group Stages and then the Swiss Indoors. Their only meeting outdoors came in the quarter-finals of the US Open two years ago, where Alcaraz had to retire in the second set after back-to-back five set slogs. Since then the Spaniard has evolved into the Grand Slam champion and recent number one he is today, winning on his return to New York last season, and he has looked in insatiable form so far at Indian Wells. Auger-Aliassime saved six match points in a brilliant comeback victory over Tommy Paul on Tuesday but despite his record over Alcaraz the Spaniard will benefit most from the slow conditions at Indian Wells. Back Alcaraz to finally get a first win on the board in this already blossoming rivalry between two young stars of the present and future.
