World number 12 Cam Norrie lost a second Auckland Classic final, the city where he grew up, on Saturday from a set up against Richard Gasquet. The 27-year-old made his first ever tour final in Auckland back in 2019 as a player hovering around the mid-70s on tour but a totally transformative 2021 saw him claim a first title at the Los Cabos Open and then a shock Masters trophy at Indian Wells. World number 142 Luca Van Assche is making his Grand Slam debut here at 18 years old and this will be the Frenchman’s second tour-level match of his career. Van Assche should not be underestimated after reaching three Challenger finals since late October, winning one of them, but Norrie is not one to drop his level for anybody. Back the Brit to win in straight sets.
