World number 49 Brandon Nakashima has beaten Matteo Arnaldi and Jiri Lehecka this week to all-but secure his place in the last four, with anything other than a straight-sets loss seeing him through here. The 21-year-old is one of only two players in Milan with an ATP title to his name after eh claimed his maiden trophy on home soil at the San Diego Open this summer, not long after reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
World number 119 Francesco Passaro edged out fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi in a five-set thriller on Wednesday to put a poor opener against Jiri Lehecka behind him. The 21-year-old can progress to the last four with victory here but he would need his compatriot and former doubles partner Arnaldi to help out with a win over Lehecka in the earlier match.
THE PREDICTION
There are plenty of permutations ahead of what should be a thrilling last round in the group stages of the Next Gen ATP Finals but Brandon Nakashima should be far too experienced now to let his lead slip. The American has 30 wins on tour this season and a title to his name as perhaps the most experienced player at the tournament, at least in terms of consistency, and he can be backed to take out Passaro outright here.
