World number 33 Botic van de Zandschulp grabbed an eye-catching victory over Australian open semi-finalist Karen Khachanov on Tuesday but the Dutchman has failed to win back-to-back matches in each of his last three tournaments. The 27-year-old’s form began to decline late last season since reaching the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open but he did make the last four at the Pune Open at the start of 2023. 24-year-old Mikael Ymer set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 59th this week after making the quarter-finals of the Open 13 last week, losing in three tight sets to eventual champion Hubert Hurkacz. This first meeting between the two is hard to call, particularly as Ymer has been enjoying some of his best tennis in recent months, but the conditions probably suit Van de Zandschulp best in Dubai. Back the Dutchman to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners.
