THE PREDICTION

World number 42 Bianca Andreescu may look a pretty low-ranked top seed on paper but the Canadian is something of a sleeping giant on tour, setting her career-high ranking of third in 2019 after winning the US Open as a 19-year-old. Andreescu has seen much of the last three seasons blighted by injuries but she has so far started 2023 in encouraging form. Wins over the likes of Garbine Muguruza and Marie Bouzkova are as strong as defeats to Cristina Bucsa, from match point up in the second round of the Australian Open, remain concerning but it is largely looking positive for the 22-year-old at this moment in time. A straight-sets victory over Harriet Dart on Tuesday is a solid start to her Thailand Open campaign and she should have little trouble backing it up with a straight sets victory over world number 186 Anastasia Zakharova despite the Russian’s excellent comeback victory in the first round.
