THE PREDICTION

This match could have been an oft-drawn Challenger fixture in years gone by but both world number 23 Botic van de Zandschulp and number 50 Benjamin Bonzi have played their way into full tour careers masterfully over the last season or so. 26-year-old Van de Zandschulp has especially thrived in recent times, reaching his first tour final at the Munich Open back in April before injury cruelly saw him concede to Holger Rune, and he is yet to drop a set this week in a promising Winston-Salem campaign. Bonzi, also 26, has also yet to drop a set in two more winnable fixtures against a returning Kyle Edmund and Thiago Monteiro but he has impressed in defeats in recent weeks to Frances Tiafoe and John Isner, both in three sets, in Montreal and Cincinnati, respectively. Three sets would not be a surprise here given the robust qualities of both players but would be a shock to see Van de Zandschulp knocked out at this stage. The Dutchman looks the just-about tournament favourite at this stage and he can be backed to come through the outright winner here.
