DUSAN LAJOVIC
- Dusan Lajovic started 2020 off with some exceptional performances in the inaugural ATP Cup that helped Novak Djokovic and Serbia claim the title
- However, Lajovic endured some awful form after the August restart and ended his season on a five-match losing streak stretching back to a second round defeat to Kevin Anderson at the delayed Roland-Garros.
MILOS RAONIC
- Milos Raonic will take the positives of his 2020 season as he looked to be improving with each passing week towards the end of the year and will start 2021 with no injury concerns.
- The 30-year-old reached the Cincinnati Masters final after the restart last season and the semi-finals of two of his last three tournaments, losing to eventual Paris Masters champion Daniil Medvedev last time out.
THE PREDICTION
Dusan Lajovic has not played for some time now and ended last season on a dire run of five straight defeats but the Serb was brilliant for his country in this competition last year and should not be counted out. He beat big-serving Milos Raonic on clay at the Rome Masters but on hard courts the Canadian should be able to overpower his fellow 30-year-old if he is anywhere near the form he ended last year with. Raonic is a stupendously good “second option” at the ATP Cup and Team Canada’s strength in depth should see them take this tie to a decider at the least. Team Serbia’s title last year relied heavily on Lajovic’s peak performances to set up tie-winning singles games for Novak Djokovic. The pressure should tell this time around with four months since Lajovic’s last win and Raonic, on this surface, should be expecting to take this one in straight sets.
