World number one Aryna Sabalenka was challenged well by Katie Boulter on Tuesday but she ultimately came through in straight sets, saving 10 of 12 break point opportunities against her. The 25-year-old is playing in her first tournament since reaching the summit of the WTA tour for the first time at the US Open, where she took the first set in her first final there before defeat to Coco Gauff. The Australian Open champion looks set to roll on through to the quarter-finals against Jasmine Paolini but the Italian should not be underestimated after upsetting Sabalenka in three sets last year at Indian Wells. 2023 Sabalenka is a serious step-up in quality, though, and Paolini’s gutsy game should struggle to match the Belarussian’s for power. Paolini has come through two three-setters to make it this far but back Sabalenka to win through in two.
