THE PREDICTION

World number 66 Arthur Rinderknech enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Chengdu Open last week but a defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, in these conditions, is sub-par by his previous standards. The 28-year-old has fought well after a poor period on tour either side of the start of the year but this looks a tough match to call between a player out of significant form and world number 92 Fabian Marozsan, who is still something of an anomaly. The 23-year-old famously stunned Carlos Alcaraz at the Italian Open in May on his favoured clay but there is very little evidence away from that surface to go on, with a surprisingly strong run at the US Open his first hardcourt tournament this season. A five-set victory over Richard Gasquet and a four-set defeat to Adrian Mannarino in New York certainly gives Marozsan a chance against this third-successive Frenchman but back Rinderknech to earn at least a set as the likelier victor of this tight first encounter.
