THE PREDICTION

Former world number two Petra Kvitova is riding a four-match losing streak from a promising run to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open back in March, where she lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. 32-year-old Kvitova is a two-time Wimbledon champion whose best tennis comes away from the clay but the Czech is still a world class all-courter on her day with an incredible 28 WTA titles to her name – including three Masters titles on clay. Kvitova reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros back in 2020 before defeat to eventual runner-up Sofia Kenin.

24-year-old Anna Bondar is in the form of her career right now and she will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 61st on Monday after steady progress this season. The Hungarian reached the semi-finals of the Rabat Open this week before pulling out of the draw ahead of a main draw debut at Roland-Garros and she also reached the quarter-finals of the Istanbul Open last month before losing to eventual runner-up Veronika Kudermetova. This first meeting with Petra Kvitova has more than a scent of an upset about it as the Czech continues to seek a first win on clay this season and the shrewd move for this first meeting between the two could be taking Bondar to win at least a set.
