THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Jelena Ostapenko brings a four-match winning streak into the Qatar Masters after an excellent run to the Linz Open title two weeks ago, her second WTA title claimed this season after starting the year off with victory in Adelaide. The 26-year-old is probably playing the best, most consistent tennis of her career to look set for a huge season on tour and she brings two intriguing stats into the draw: having reached at least the final, in singles or doubles, at all four tournaments so far as well as losing just twice in 2024 – both times to Victoria Azarenka. Whomever of Anhelina Kalinina and Emma Raducanu in the first round looked set for a steep task here but world number 30 Kalinina prevailed, impressively, to step up to the plate. The Ukrainian has lost each of her two previous tour-level meetings with Ostapenko in straight sets and that looks set to continue against the Latvian, who has to be considered a title contender this week in Doha.

TIP: JELENA OSTAPENKO TO WIN 2-0
