THE PREDICTION
World number 43 Anastasia Potapova is one of just three seeds remaining in this ever-widening draw at the Lyon Open after two three-set victories so far. The 21-year-old claimed her maiden WTA title on clay at the Istanbul Cup last soring but she also finished runner-up to Marie Bouzkova at the Prague Open in similar conditions to here late last season. World number 93 Maryna Zanevska produced a major shock on Thursday, conceding just two games to defending champion Shuai Zhang to blow the draw wide open. 29-year-old Zanevska had impressed in a straight-sets defeat to Veronika Kudermetova in the first round of the Australian Open but there is surely more to Shuai Zhang’s limp defeat behind the scene. Potapova has struggled to come through cleanly so far in Lyon but the Russian should feasibly be reaching the semi-finals from this first meeting with Zanevska. Back Potapova to win outright.
