THE PREDICTION
World number 35 Amanda Anisimova is one of the more unpredictable players on tour right now but there is no question that the 21-year-old has a bright future at the very top of the sport. Anisimova has managed just one win so far this season, albeit against a top opponent in Liudmila Samsonova, with confidence looking like her main issue rather than ability and this should be a reasonable comfortable opener. Former world number two Vera Zvonareva’s last of 12 WTA titles came over a decade ago at the Qatar Open and she spends most of her time on the doubles circuit these days, with this run of tournaments in the Middle East her first three back since winning the Miami Open women’s doubles alongside Laura Siegemund last March. The 38-year-old’s last win on tour in singles came in the first round of Miami and Anisimova should have little trouble winning this in two.
