THE PREDICTION
World number 10 Alexander Zverev is through to his second final in as many months after beating Grigor Dimitrov – for a fourth time this season – in straight sets on Monday. The 26-year-old suffered a serious foot injury at Roland-Garros last summer and he initially struggled on his return to the tour at the start of 2023 but victory at the Hamburg Open this time in July sparked a resurgence. Roman Safiullin, also 26, will set a new career high ATP world ranking of around 41st after reaching his first ever ATP final with an assured victory over Lorenzo Musetti. The Russian set his previous career-high of 43rd with a huge run to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in July to prove what he can do with some rare momentum behind him and a spotless run to the final this week makes him a serious threat. Zverev beat Safiullin in straight sets at Roland-Garros two years ago but the Russian is a more confident version of the junior who promised so much before the pandemic this time around. Back Zverev to find that extra level when it gets tough but three sets seems likelier than two.
