THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Alexander Zverev needed three sets to get past Pavel Kotov on Saturday but the German should benefit from surviving an early scare after a few weeks off the tour. The 26-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters last month before defeat to eventual champion Novak Djokovic and he upset Jannik Sinner in five sets to make the quarter-finals at the US Open before defeat to defending champion Carlos Alcaraz as he continues to improve on tour. Zverev looks the overwhelming favourite to lift the Chengdu title next week, having beaten next-best here Grigor Dimitrov three times already this season, but world number 47 Miomir Kecmanovic is capable of putting up a fight. The 24-year-old is yet to drop a set this week but results over Benjamin lock and Corentin Moutet hardly prepare the Serb to face a resurgent Zverev, although he did stun the German in their first encounter in Cincinnati back in 2019. Back Zverev to win outright inside an accumulator or take him to win in straight sets on its own.
