THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Alexander Zverev moved back up to world number five this week after a solid run to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, although he was well-beaten by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz there. The German beat Alcaraz en-route to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January and he took the first two sets from rival Daniil Medvedev before a crushing defeat. That results looks to have shaken his confidence considerably since, with a shock first round exit to Daniel Altmaier at the Mexican Open late last month wholly avoidable.
Former world number six Felix Auger-Aliassime beat qualifier Adam Walton in straight sets on Thursday but it should have come much more convincingly than 7-5 6-4. The 23-year-old is currently ranked at 36th after enduring a truly woeful past 12 months on tour, despite managing to defend his Swiss Indoors title late last season, and he looks the considerable underdog in this once heavyweight clash. Zverev leads their head-to-head 5-2 and he can be backed to extend that lead in straight sets here.
