World number 16 Alexander Zverev came back from a set down to beat Jiri Lehecka on Monday in his most encouraging performance since returning from injury. The former world number two was playing some of his best tennis last summer before suffering a serious ankle injury in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros, where he looked the better player for much of his two sets against eventual champion Rafael Nadal. 28-year-old Christopher O’Connell is enjoying an excellent period of his own career right now with a run to the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open last week seeing a brilliant victory over Roberto Bautista Agut and a competitive three-set defeat to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. The Aussie qualified well this weekend before a straight-sets victory over Emil Ruusuvuori on Tuesday and he should not be underestimated in this first meeting with Zverev, who remains vulnerable despite his confidence-booster on Monday. Back Zverev to win outright here with three sets about as likely as two.
