THE PREDICTION

World number 56 Alex Molcan stunned Borna Coric in the second round of Indian Wells two weeks ago before losing in the third to Marton Fucsovics. The 25-year-old has so far struggled to reach the heights he is capable of this season under the new tutelage of coach Marian Vajda but the next few weeks could see a change as he approaches the swing on his favoured clay. World number 83 Jordan Thompson also reached the third round at Indian Wells with a shock victory over an admittedly injury-hampered Stefanos Tsitsipas and he will be severely disappointed to have lost in the third round to Alejandro Tabilo. The 28-year-old qualified well this week to make the main draw with relative comfort and the conditions in Miami probably just-about suit him best in this first meeting with Molcan. This is a difficult call considering Molcan has more gears to find in his game this season but it is harder to see Thompson losing in two than the Slovak. Back Thompson to win at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
