2021 Rotterdam Open champion and world number five Andrey Rublev fought hard to come back from a set down to oust 2022 champion Felix Auger-Aliassime on Wednesday, backing-up a solid opener over Zizou Bergs. This will be a fascinating and likely thrilling rematch against world number 11 Alex de Minaur, who took the Russian all the way in a five-set epic at the Australian Open last month before something of a capitulation in the decider. 24-year-old De Minaur is yet to drop a set this week in an admirable return from such a heart-breaker on home soil in Melbourne but Rublev has now won each of their last two to level their head-to-head record at 3-3, although De Minaur’s last victory came in straight sets in the first round here last season. Five of their six previous encounters have gone to a decider to suggest that three sets is a suitable alternative to picking a winner here but De Minaur is the only player to have won at least a set in all six matches to offer a more cautious option.
