THE PREDICTION
This should be a thoroughly enjoyable match between world number 11 Casper Ruud and number 14 Diego Schwartzman with their head-to-head currently heavily favouring the Argentine at 4-1. 29-year-old Schwartzman has played out two highly competitive three-set matches with Dan Evans and Frances Tiafoe to reach the round of 16 whilst eighth seed Ruud came back masterfully from a set down to Reilly Opelka to win in three on Wednesday. Both players are considered some of the strongest clay-court competitors around but this has been Ruud’s year on the surface with four ATP titles won in 2021.
Despite their current head-to-head, Ruud is certainly the man in the ascendency at this moment in time and he was the winner in straight sets in their previous encounter at the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this year. The Norwegian has yet to truly prove himself in the latter stages of tournaments off the clay but this year he is starting to change that. This will probably go to three sets, so take Ruud to win at least one of them as the likelier winner.
