THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Cam Norrie will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 12th no matter the outcome of this second round match at the Paris Masters to continue what has been a dream year on tour. The British number one conceded just three games to Federico Delbonis on Monday in keeping with his recent tireless, ruthless performances against any player ranked outside the top 10. Norrie produced a stunning run to the Indian Wells title last month to make it two hardcourt ATP title now, adding to a win at the Los Cabos Open back in July. World number 25 Reilly Opelka reached his first Masters final in August at the Canadian Open but the American had the misfortune of meeting Daniil Medvedev there. The 23-year-old is enjoying his best year on tour despite not yet adding to his career total of two ATP titles. He took out Filip Krajinovic in a fairly comfortable straight sets win on Tuesday.
Cam Norrie came off the worse when he first met Reilly Opelka in a straight-sets loss at last season’s Cincinnati Open. However, the current world number 13 is this season’s most improved player on the ATP tour and fearing absolutely no-one in his wholly unimaginable pursuit of the year-end ATP Finals. This is a tough match-up for both players but Norrie should be able to withstand Opelka’s powerful serve enough to snatch at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners.
