The evergreen Ivo Karlovic returns to the ATP tour for an incredible 21st year and makes the short trip from his Miami residence to play the first tournament of 2021 at Delray Beach. He faced Pablo Andujar in this very state two years ago, in the first round too of the Miami Masters, losing in straight sets to the hard-working Spaniard. Andujar enjoyed a late surge of form last season that did not quite transfer over to wins but the 34-year-old looked in good shape in two close defeats to Grigor Dimitrov and Yoshihito Nishioka at the European Open and Paris Masters. Andujar’s busy playstyle is a good tonic for Karlovic’s legendary service game and the proof that he can win this match is in their previous and only meeting. Over the last few years Karlovic’s potency is, understandably at 41, starting to wane. Andujar can win this in straight sets but opting for a tiebreak in the match could also be useful here.
