THE PREDICTION
Adrian Mannarino is the last seed in the Sofia Open draw after his next opponent, Jannik Sinner, defeated Alex de Minaur in emphatic fashion on Thursday. De Minaur took the first set via a tense tiebreak before again running out of the vigour that took him a set up against Daniil Medvedev last week. 19-year-old Sinner played with a cool head throughout and his unflappable nature looks his shrewdest superpower as he navigated his way through the Aussie’s speed to reach the semi-finals convincingly. Mannarino, too, negotiated a tough match of twists and turns against Radu Albot with both players suffering dips in intensity. The winner of the tournament will likely come from this match, with respect to Vasek Pospisil and Richard Gasquet, but there will be few people out there now who do not see the youngster winning his first ATP title this week. It could be one of those “had-to-be” sporting moments as he closes his breakthrough season off with the last tournament available, setting himself up for a 2021 without limits. Mannarino has been in fine form but Sinner will be all over the Frenchman if he plays as he did in the quarters and this should go the Italian’s way in straight sets.
