THE PREDICTION
World number 82 Salvatore Caruso showed good metal in coming back from a set down to Bulgarian wildcard Dimitar Kuzmanov in the first round of the Sofia Open, making 10 aces over three sets. He will be up against it from the off as he faces the second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16, with the Canadian coming in off the back of his first ATP title. After six finals in which the 20-year-old finished runner-up, his Men’s Doubles victory at the Paris Masters last week with Hubert Hurkacz came quite out of nothing and should really spur the youngster on at this tournament. As a Masters champion, Auger-Aliassime has experienced the feeling of lifting a trophy for the first time and this makes him almost the complete package on tour now. 2021 is going to be a very interesting year for the next gen star and he is one of the favourites to end 2020 with a Sofia Open title. This should be a straight-sets affair against Caruso, although the Italian should be a tough nut to crack early-on.
