THE PREDICTION
34-year-old Richard Gasquet made shirt work of defeating Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round of the Sofia Open on Tuesday morning but he will face the story of the tournament so far here. Jonas Forejtek grabbed his opportunity with both hands when he took out the eighth seed and former US Open champion Marin Cilic in straight sets. The 19-year-old is ranked at 399th in the ATP world rankings but not for much longer after that performance, although Cilic was admittedly off the pace for much of their match. Forejtek will no longer have the element of surprise on his side now when he faces another veteran in Gasquet but the Czech could take his momentum into this match with a never-say-die attitude that could well win him a set. There is no doubt that Gasquet should take this match comfortably but Forejtek’s career-win should empower him here and picking him to claim a set in the match, for want of a result that should go the Frenchman’s way, is a shrewd option indeed.
