THE PREDICTION
This should be a fantastic match between two elder statesmen on tour in John Millman and Gilles Simon, with the former likely still buzzing from the capture of his first ever ATP title in Kazakhstan two weeks ago. 31-year-old Millman could not back up his Astana Open form at the Paris Masters, as is so often the case with most players after a title win, but he was commanding in a straight-sets victory over Bulgarian wildcard Adrian Andreev and is the man in form in this round of 16 match. The Aussie beat Adrian Mannarino in the final of Astana after a strong campaign that week and is near his career-high ranking of 33 off the back of it, currently in 38th
place. French veteran Simon took a similarly route to the round of 16 with a straight-sets victory over Andrej Martin and, whilst he is the lower-ranked player here, the Frenchman is capable of out-working anybody. In fact, the 35-year-old was the victor in their only previous match last year at the Sydney Open in a three-set slog. In a match that could go either way, perhaps opting for another tussle between these players going to a decider is the best option.
