THE PREDICTION

World number 81 Egor Gerasimov did well to weather a Viktor Troicki fight-back to come through their first round match at the Sofia Open in three sets but he will face a tougher test now. The French fifth seed was pegged back by Martin Klizan in their first meeting but the world number 35’s pedigree shone through to come back and win the decider. Mannarino will be the more confident for it after a typical hangover from a tough-to-take loss at the Paris Masters last week, where he took Alexander Zverev right to the edge. The 32-year-old left-hander shares a 1-1 head-to-head record with Gerasimov, with the Belarusian winning their most recent encounter at St. Petersburg last year, but he will expect to defeat the 27-year-old here. It could well take a decider but Mannarino’s ability eclipses Gerasimov’s on their respective days and the Frenchman should reach the quarter-finals.
