THE PREDICTION

Radu Albot claimed one of the scalps of his career when he beat the Sofia Open first seed Denis Shapovalov in straight sets on Wednesday, causing the Canadian to destroy at least one racket along the way. The Moldovan was dogged in his pursuit of a distracted and predictable Shapovalov but nevertheless came through strongly and should be considered a threat going forwards. Albot has won an ATP 250 event before, last year’s Delray Beach Open, and looked back to his best after an average year on tour. World number 35 Adrian Mannarino also won his only ATP title at a 250 event last year at the Libema Open and both players have an excellent opportunity to double their total by the end of the week. The pair have not played before but Mannarino’s form has been robust to say the least of late and while Albot was impressive in his defeat of Shapovalov he will not be underestimated by such a focused competitor as Mannarino. The Frenchman should take this quarter-final, though in how many sets is hard to call.
