31-year-old John Millman is flying high after his recent first ATP title win in Astana and has reached the quarter finals here by rights after a lengthy three-set tussle with Gilles Simon. The Australian is the sixth seed here as world number 38 and the third-highest ranked player left in the draw after so many top seeds have toppled. He will face a player in Vasek Pospisil who has struggled against the players he was supposed to beat recently but then doubled-down to come through Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16 here in straight sets. The Canadian is a tricky player to pin down, which makes him an exciting player to watch but incredibly difficult to predict. Pospisil was the victor in their only tour-level match to date at the Davis Cup this time last year, where the 30-year-old proved to be an electrifying stand-in for Felix Auger-Aliassime. Pospisil’s form when playing for his country is that of a top 20 player but as solos players this match promises to be a more tactical battle and one that likely rests on energy levels. Pospisil beat Millman in straight sets last year but the Aussie is in good enough form to take this all the way to a decider. A result could absolutely go either way and therefore taking the three-set option is a shrewd one market-wise. However, on their respective days Pospisil just shades this match-up.
