World number 73 Stefanos Travaglia is on a four match losing streak after defeat in the first round of the Paris Masters to Alex de Minaur last week, though his efforts at the delayed French open were impressive in beating Kei Nishikori over five sets. The Italian reached a career-high 70th in the ATP world rankings in mid-October and could well improve on that with a run here. The field is open for a challenger from the lower-end of the Top 100 and the form that Nikoloz Basilashvili is in suggests Travaglia could be the one. Basilashvili was the victor the last time these players met at the 2019 Australian open but the Georgian has been drifting down the rankings ever since and even that day was close with five sets played. 28-year-old Basilashvili has not won a match since the re-start of the season and likely cannot wait for 2020 to end, so Stefano Travaglia can grab this opportunity by the scruff of the neck with a first round win here.
