THE PREDICTION
Roberto Caballes Baena and Richard Gasquet have played once before, with the Frenchman taking that victory in straight-sets at the Madrid Masters back in 2016. Four years on and Gasquet is still a glorious player to watch but can sometimes run out of steam at crucial moments. He should come through this first match against the Spaniard but Carballes Baena is a tough-it-out character and recently beat Denis Shapovalov over five sets at the French Open. However, Gasquet started the Paris Masters campaign well last week in a win over Taylor Fritz and has been well-involved in tough recent losses to Daniil Medvedev and, twice, Alex de Minaur. The veteran should reach the second round in Sofia but it is a toss-up as to whether Carballes Baena can steal a set along the way.
