THE PREDICTION
World number 20 Stan Wawrinka played as well as we have seen this year in his straight-sets defeat of Dan Evans and seemed to have an extra gear in him to reach at the Paris Masters this week, although longevity is his main issue at 35 years old. The Swiss three-time Grand Slam champion has motored into a few tournaments since the re-start of the season before losing energy in the latter stages and while that should not be a problem in the second round here, Tommy Paul will be aware that he should try to outlast his opponent. 23-year-old Paul lost the first set of his opening Paris Masters match before rallying to beat another member of the old guard in Gilles Simon and the American certainly has the engine to take this to a decider if Wawrinka lets him in. However, the Swiss has played many successful campaigns on these courts before and should negotiate his way to the round of 16 here.
