THE PREDICTION
Corentin Moutet did well to negotiate a tricky first-round match against lucky loser Salvatore Caruso and came through a second-set tiebreak to eventually overcome his opponent. It is a shame for the young French players that there is no crowd in Paris but he will be buoyed by that performance as he faces Marin Cilic for the second time this year. Moutet’s chances are slim, though, as 32-year-old Cilic took out Felix Auger-Aliassime yesterday and looked assured in doing so with strong service numbers against the Canadian. Cilic beat Moutet in their only previous match in the first round of this year’s Australian Open and it seems like a bad match-up for the diminutive lefty. If he can get a rhythm on the Croatian’s serve he could cause some damage but Cilic is likely to overpower the Frenchman here in two sets.
