THE PREDICTION
In one of those odd anomalies the ATP tour can throw up this will be an immediate rematch for world number five Daniil Medvedev after he met, and lost to, Kevin Anderson for the first time just last Friday. The big South African was in a real purple patch at the Vienna Open until he was forced to retire from the subsequent semi-final against eventual champion Andrey Rublev but he was repaid with a win by default in Paris as Laslo Djere retired from their first round match. 24-year-old Medvedev will be a tougher opponent this time around with the benefit of hindsight against the former world number five but the Russian just does not look himself on court right now. Anderson is a seasoned professional and will benefit greatly from the short amount of court time this morning. If he stays fit, which will always be a concern with South African, there is no reason why he cannot win this second encounter with Medvedev. However, realistically the Russian should be backed to work out what went wrong last week in Vienna and come through this rematch with his trademark venom.
